From the Principal

Starting the school year in thankfulness…

It was an absolute delight to greet students and their families on Monday morning. I had the joy of visiting each class: seeing the excitement on students’ faces as they asked many questions about the new year, telling their holiday stories, spending time with their new teachers and seeing their friends. We are excited to be partnering with all of our families as we continue to deliver quality Christian education to our students in 2021!

On Monday at Line-Up with all the students and staff, I highlighted that we are to be thankful to God in all circumstances and moments. I spoke to them about the inevitable possibility of having some difficult moments at some point this year and encouraged them to look to God for guidance and continue to rejoice and be thankful. Students were also asked to think of three things that they were thankful for and to give thanks to God for these. It was a joy to hear students confidently share some of the things that they were thankful for! Let’s all start the year in thankfulness - there is so much to be thankful to God for!

These are just a few things for which we are thankful to God:

• His great love for us.

• His guidance and provisions for us at Northern Christian School.

• For all of our students: all unique, creative and made in God’s image.

• Our 45 new students who have started at Northern this year.

• For our supportive parents and families who partner with us.

• Our dedicated teachers, who worked hard in the holidays to design and prepare quality and engaging teaching programs for our students.

• Our support staff, who support our students and staff with humility and gentleness.

• For our cleaners who cleaned our classrooms ready for the new school year.

• For our bus drivers, who ensure that students are safely transported to and from school and home.

• For Mr Baines for working hard in the holidays, assembling new furniture and sprucing up the grounds ready for school.

• The construction of the new buildings, playground and courtyards.

• For Fairbrother, ensuring that school is safe for our students as they construct our new buildings.

• For our beautiful grounds at Northern.

Welcome Back Afternoons

All parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for our Open Classrooms on Friday 12 February and Friday 19 February.

Come and be introduced to the Northern community and hear what’s happening in each class. This year, due to our building works with limited parking, we are sadly unable to have our Welcome BBQ all together.

Instead, Kinder to Year 2 classes will have their classrooms open on Friday 12 February from 3.10pm - 4.30pm and Years 3-6 classrooms will be open on Friday 19 February from 3.10pm - 4.00pm.

These are wonderful opportunities for you to help your child grow and flourish by supporting and taking an interest in their learning. These afternoons will also you to meet and chat with your child’s teachers: your child will be able to share their learning with you and their most recent artwork whilst you enjoy some afternoon tea.

There will also be an AR Reading presentation for our Years 3-6 families in the Auslan Room and a Math Pathways Information Session at 4.10pm for our Years 5-6 families in the Year 6 Classroom on Friday 19 February.

We'd love to see you there!

100 Nights of Reading

We value reading very highly. This year, we are starting a new initiative, '100 Nights Of Reading' with our students. All students are encouraged to take this challenge on.

Prep to Year 6 students that complete '100 Nights of Reading’ will receive a certificate and a book of their choice.

Kinder students will also receive a certificate and a book of their choice once they have completed 50 nights of reading with their family.

Teachers will be sending out more information about students' reading logbooks to record their reading shortly.

Our hope is that our students will continue to read more at school, and at home, and will learn to love reading!

Subway Lunch Order Program

Subway lunches are available on Fridays.

They offer individually prepared packs for students that include a 6-inch Sub or Gluten-Free Wrap (extra $1.00) and a juice or water. Add a cookie for an extra $0.50.

Orders must be placed via QKR! App by 9.00am Thursday for delivery Friday and can be ordered in advance.

Instrumental Music Tuition

There are several vacant timeslots for music tuition this year. Tuition is available for the following instruments:

• Piano

• Guitar

• Beginner Violin

• Flute*

• Clarinet*

Cost is $25 per half-hour lesson, once a week during school terms.  Invoices are emailed out monthly and can be paid through online banking.

Please get in early as spaces fill up quickly. 

Contact Andrea Marks (amarks@northern.tas.edu.au) to book in for lessons or if you wish to discuss the possibility of lessons on clarinet, flute or another instrument.

*In most cases you will require your own instrument to practice on at home. We may have a clarinet and/or flute available to borrow from the school.

If you need to update any details for your child or yourself, please follow the links under “Information and Medical” on our Parents Page.

COVID-19 Regulations

Parents and carers are not permitted to enter classrooms during school hours (between 9.00am and 3.00pm) unless signed in as a Visitor at the School Office. If you are dropping off or collecting your child during these hours please attend the Office first.

All other parents and carers are reminded to wait until 3:00pm before entering the school grounds to collect students.

All School Absentees

For absentees please fill-out our Absentee Form OR email us before 9.30am.

• An SMS will be sent to parents for unexplained absences.

• Please ensure late students who arrive after 9.00am are signed in at the office.

• If students are leaving early they are required to be signed out at the office.

• A doctor’s certificate is required for more than three days’ absence.

• Please notify the office before 2.30pm for any messages your children need before leaving school.
