Every day, our bell rings at 8:55am signalling students to start moving to their classrooms to prepare for the day, with learning commencing at 9.00am. The role is marked, and they begin with a devotion, prayer and are given the outline of the day. 

The tone and effectiveness of the entire day is established in the first 20 minutes in the classroom. This time is vital for your child’s success. They are aware of what is happening, where they need to be, and are given the opportunity to ask questions.

Unfortunately, many of our students are missing this time of the day and are continually arriving late to school, some only by a few minutes. I understand that, for some families, your mornings can be a mad scramble. There are many things to do and never enough time! However, better planning and establishing good routines can help set you up for a more relaxed start to the day and, therefore, on-time arrival at school.

This year, we are thrilled to be taking our Years 5 and 6 students through the transformative learning experience of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Competition. FLL is a global robotics program that combines the excitement of LEGO with the power of technology, aiming to inspire and challenge students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This innovative program encourages participants to explore real-world challenges through a thematic approach, design autonomous robots using LEGO Robots (Spike Prime and MindStorm), and develop problem-solving and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging environment. This year's theme is ‘The Masterpiece’. Students will explore what goes into making a masterpiece and create their own. 

Participating in the FIRST LEGO League offers your child many benefits. Firstly, it provides hands-on learning that bridges the gap between theory and practice, fostering critical thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities. By working collaboratively in teams, participants develop vital communication skills and learn to respect diverse viewpoints, all while nurturing a sense of self-confidence and achievement. The competition helps students build a genuine passion for STEM subjects, motivating young minds to continue being lifelong learners now and into the future.

We will be taking two teams to compete in the Hobart regional competition in Term 4. If your child is interested in being part of the team, a letter will be sent home for you with more information about the competition and the expectations of your child participating. Even if your child doesn’t go to the event, every student will get the opportunity to present their masterpiece later in Term 4. There will be more information later in the term regarding this.

The FIRST LEGO League Competition is more than just a robotics challenge; it is a life-changing experience that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Through FFL, students will become part of a global community of passionate learners, problem solvers, and future leaders in STEM.

Current Northern families are warmly invited to attend our Light Festival

Join us for a self-guided light walk through our School, a sing-a-long around the fire pits on the Oval, with hot spiced apple cider and hot chocolate to keep you warm, as well as soup and doughnuts. There will also be a student art exhibition in the Performing Arts Centre with our theme of ‘Transforming our Heads, Hearts, and Hands’ and other exciting surprises, including a Laser Show. The evening will conclude on the Oval with a fireworks display. We'd love to see you there!

We are very excited by students' progress in our new initiative '100 Nights Of Reading'. We would love to congratulate those students who have achieved 100 Nights of Reading during the holidays and have received their books. Keep reading, as we have plenty more books to give away. We would love to see students reach ‘200 Nights of Reading’!

We value reading very highly, and the benefits of reading are immeasurable. Our hope is that our students will develop a love of reading. This semester, we will continue our '100 Nights of Reading' initiative. Thank you to parents and students who are supporting this great program. It has been so wonderful to see students’ love of reading grow!
