Last term, I shared that we were introducing the PeaceWiseKids program at Northern. We commenced the program with the module ‘Understanding Conflict’. This introduced discussions about what conflict might look like from a biblical perspective and what God’s plan for peace is for us. While we have only just started this program, students are already embracing the concepts they are learning, and staff are supporting students in dealing with challenging relationships in healthy ways.

This term, we began ‘Responding to Conflict’. This module is about helping us learn how to be peacemakers. The younger years will cover topics such as: “How can I be a peacemaker?” “How do I get God’s help with conflict?” and “How can I help you to be a peacemaker?” Our older students will also look at learning to take responsibility for their part in the conflict and choosing peace instead of escaping or attacking.

This week, your child will bring home a PeaceWiseKids flyer, which provides an overview of the program so that families can take time together to review and discuss the topics. We value partnership with parents, and the flyer provides links with further information; therefore, we encourage you to consider how you can reinforce PeaceWiseKids concepts at home.

As we continue to equip students through the PeaceWiseKids program, we don’t expect them to know all of the steps at this stage; however, we intend for these concepts to become embedded in Northern culture.

Production Working Bee

We are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together and help create the magic for our upcoming primary school musical production.

We are hosting a Set and Prop Making Working Bee, and we need your help!

This is a wonderful chance for students, parents, and families to get involved in the behind-the-scenes work that makes our productions so special. Whether you have artistic skills or simply a willingness to help, your participation is greatly valued.

Tasks will include painting, building props, decorating, and more. All materials and instructions will be provided, so no prior experience is necessary.

We hope to see many of you there, ready to roll up your sleeves and contribute to making this production truly special. Thank you in advance for your time and support.

In Mathematics, students have been studying their times tables ready to move into multiplication. We have also looked at how we can describe the chance of events happening and how we can measure the area of a rectangle.

In HASS, we have been learning a lot more about Australia, what makes it special, and about some of our neighbouring countries. We even managed to fit in a few Geoguessr rounds! We had a blast last week exploring volcanoes with the Year 5 class, and it was great to see the students so engaged with their experiments.

We have been enjoying many opportunities to participate in activities outside the classroom, including exploring some new art styles for our display at the Light Festival and rehearsing for the production.

It’s been a fantastic term for Year 3, and we’re looking forward to everything still to come!

Please join our Northern community for a relaxed, casual Father's Day morning with an egg and bacon muffin and a barista-made coffee for adults to enjoy with their children on the PAC Green! There will be plenty of sweet treats for students to enjoy.

The aim of the occasion is to create a happy time for children to share with the adult men in their lives, be it Dad, big brother, uncle, grandad, stepfather, or friend.

We would love to have some Mums help us with cooking and serving for this event. Please email the CEC if you would like to help.

Brixhibition is underway! We are always excited to celebrate the gift God has given our students to be creative, expressed through their Lego entries.

Lego submissions can be handed in to the Learning Enrichment Room from Monday, 2nd September - Monday 9th September or virtually as a photo emailed to myself. Students are to be holding or positioned next to their creations. Photos will be displayed in the Learning Enrichment Room.

Cross Country Carnival - Results

Last Wednesday, we held our Cross Country Carnival. It was wonderful to have so many families support us on the day.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with recording results, handing out ribbons, setting up, packing up, and many other tasks. There are lots of great photos of the event.

We want to celebrate those students in each year group who pushed themselves throughout the race and proved themselves during the day. This year’s Cross Country Champions are as follows:

Miss Andrea Marks has positions available for private instrumental music tuition, held at Northern Christian School during school hours. Lessons are available on the following instruments:

• Piano

• Guitar

• Beginner Violin

• Flute*

• Clarinet*

The cost is $27 per half-hour lesson, once a week during school terms.

To book your child’s lesson, please complete this form or contact Andrea Marks (amarks@emmanuel.tas.edu.au) directly to book lessons or discuss the possibility of lessons on clarinet, flute or another instrument.

*Flutes and clarinets are not provided by the school for lessons. Should you wish to learn these instruments, you will be required to bring your own instrument. For all other instruments, students may use the school instruments for lessons; however, having their own instrument to practise with outside of the lesson time would be beneficial, and they are welcome to bring their own instrument for lessons.
