From the Principal

People will never forget how you made them feel…

… is a well-known quote that I heard in my childhood and has stuck with me. Undoubtedly, you are all familiar with this statement which focuses on how others’ actions and words affect us. As a school, we have been focusing on our new school value of ‘Kindness’ and being intentional in the way that we are kind to others. At Monday’s Line-Up, I used confetti canons to demonstrate to students and staff how we are to spread kindness like confetti - that God has shown kindness to us and we should encourage and practice kindness all around us.

In the Bible, we read that God calls us to be kind. In Ephesians 4:32, we are reminded,

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.

We know that Jesus showed his loving-kindness on the cross for us when we were so undeserving. His act of kindness to us should be both the motivation and the power for us to be kind to others.

We believe that the process of encouraging and celebrating kindness will frame the culture of Northern Christian School. We want all of our students, parents, families, staff and the wider community to understand and reflect kindness in their interactions with each other. We need to work hard together to be deliberate and intentional in being kind to everyone for this to happen. As most of you are already aware, I have never liked the phrase or the connotation of ‘Random Acts of Kindness’. God is always kind, compassionate and slow to anger, and therefore, He expects us to always show kindness, even to people we may struggle with at times. God does not call us to be selective or random in the kindness that we show to others. Instead, kindness requires intentional action to all.

This term, our classes will focus on how they can be intentionally and deliberately kind. Each day, students and staff will be encouraged to think, pray and ask the question ‘Who might I intentionally show kindness to today?’

We will be a transformative learning community at Northern Christian School by being intentional and deliberate in our kindness - the same loving-kindness that God has poured on us so richly, in Jesus.

Year 5 Update

On the first day of Term 4, Year 5 and 6 set off to Spring Beach Youth Camp near Orford and enjoyed three days of jam-packed fun. Students were placed into three groups to participate in various activities. Things were fairly relaxed the first day as students tried their hand at archery, orienteering and a low-ropes course. However, things got a whole lot more interesting on Day 2 when students (and staff!) were pushed out of their comfort zones in three activities that all required helmets!

We learned to kayak on the dam and then put our newfound skills to work in a competitive game of ‘kayak water polo’. Some participants got very passionate about the game, testing the stability of their kayaks and the buoyancy of their PFD’s – and from the look on their faces, the water was indeed very cold!

The Flying Fox tested the nerve of everyone as it involved jumping off a very high tower and flying 160 metres over the dam, attached to a zip line. Some struggled to overcome their fear of heights while others went back for seconds.

Abseiling tested everyone even further and, for some, the sense of accomplishment came from simply being brave enough to hang over the cliff face without climbing down to the bottom.

All of our students experienced being out of their comfort zone during these activities, and for some even just the experience of being on camp away from their families was frightening enough. However, this was a great opportunity for students to grow in confidence, trust and resilience. As teachers, we feel privileged to be able to share this experience with our students, seeing the joy on their faces as they experience new things.

From the Office

Entering Campus

Parents and carers are not to enter classrooms between 9.00am – 3.00pm unless as a volunteer, signed in to the Office.

If you are simply dropping off or collecting your child before or after the start and end of the school day, there is no need to sign in; however, if you enter a classroom during drop off or pick up, please ensure you sign in using the COVID-19 Check In Tas App QR code at the entrance to the classroom prior to entering. (You only need to sign in once even if you enter additional classrooms.)

Parents and carers entering classrooms once the school day has started can be very distracting and unsettling. If you need to drop off or collect your child during class time, please visit the Office, and we will assist you. We will deliver items to classrooms and provide messages to students and staff.

All School Absentees

For absentees please fill-out our Absentee Form OR email us before 9.30am.

• An SMS will be sent to parents for unexplained absences.

• Please ensure late students who arrive after 9.00am are signed in at the office.

• If students are leaving early they are required to be signed out at the office.

• A doctor’s certificate is required for more than three days’ absence.

• Please notify the office before 2.30pm for any messages your children need before leaving school.
