Being Faithful at this
Present Time
Welcome to Term 3! It has been a joy and delight to see our students return to school, and also hear about their holiday adventures in Tasmania. I have enjoyed visiting each class over the last few days, and have been encouraged to see how well our students have settled back into school routines.
Last week, our staff spent time preparing for Term 3 and planning for Semester 2. As a staff, we had the privilege of spending time together, praying and dedicating this term to God. I shared with them the well-known chorus of a song by Colin Buchannan, which is known by many of our students so you may have heard these lyrics before at home: “Jesus is the mighty, mighty King, Jesus is the mighty, mighty King, God made him the boss of everything. And Jesus is the mighty, mighty King.” I reminded our team that Jesus is the ‘Big Boss’ of everything, and this includes our school; Northern Christian School. I shared with staff that we need to regularly take the words of Scripture and ponder them in such a way that our thoughts and feelings focus on Jesus as the King and the boss of our lives. A quick 5 minutes on Instagram, Facebook or scrolling through news sites, bombards you with articles that tell us a very different story - that we are the boss of the world - which contradicts God’s word. Our students are also consistently told these false stories - that they are the ‘Big Boss’ of the world.
Due to the lifting of certain COVID-19 restrictions, on Monday we were able to have ‘Line-Up’ as a school community, face-to-face. It was such a joy to meet together, in prayer, dedicate the term to God. I shared with students that we had many plans this year and had to change many of these, and even cancel some of our events such as the Year 5 & 6 Canberra Trip. Some students may have found school quite ‘ordinary’ this year and feel that they are not doing much; not doing those big, fun things. I shared with our students that God calls us to be faithful to him now in this present time.
My prayer for our students this term is that they may be faithful to God in this present time by showing integrity, working hard and loving God and others. My prayer for our school community is that we will also be faithful in this present time to love those in front of us and around us.
COVID-19 Visitor Screening
Due to COVID-19 regulations, we are required as a school to pre-screen all visitors who enter our school for more than 5 minutes. This will, in the event of a positive diagnosis of COVID-19, allow us to trace who has been to our school and identify potential persons who may have been in close contact. All visitors that are on the school site for more than 5 minutes must complete our Visitor Health Screening Form at the office.
Until further notice, all parents are to remain in their vehicles until 3.00pm before entering the school grounds to collect younger students. If you are happy for older students to walk to your car then please arrange this to minimise visitors entering campus. You must then leave campus within 5 minutes. If you are wanting to speak with a teacher, please make an appointment or organise a phone call.
