It is wonderful to finally have the Prep class back together after our time of separation! The students have been delighted to re-establish friendships and to slot back into the routines of the classroom.
Recently, we had some fun participating in the National Simultaneous Reading event where students all over Australia listened to the reading of the same book on the same day. The book was a hilarious story called Diva Chickens, and the Prep students decided to decorate their own tiaras for the occasion!
This term, we are learning about some characters from the Old Testament in the Bible. Students continue to be amazed by the mighty miracles God did (and still does) in the lives of His people. It is also such a joy to be able to help students ponder God’s amazing creation, and we have been able to do this not just through His word but through Maths, as we investigate patterns in nature. In Science, we are exploring the seasons and weather patterns that God has created in our world.
In Maths, we are beginning to look at simple addition and have also investigated 2D shapes, time, more and less, and ten frames.
This is a particularly exciting time of the year in Prep as students begin to make connections with letter sounds which we learned in the first term, and now letter recognition and writing. All students are reading simple readers and writing sentences!
We are learning about the weather in Science, and by the end of this unit of work, our little people will be able to describe the weather on a particular day, discuss appropriate clothing and talk about appropriate activities.
In Humanities and Social Sciences, Prep are continuing to learn about Family Histories.
