From the Principal

Thank You!

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for all of the seen, and unseen, ways that you have supported Northern this term. Staff and myself have been overwhelmed by your kindness, encouragement, grace and patience that you have shown to us in the last few months. We have a very special community at Northern, and I’m so thankful for every single person.

You would be very aware that life at Northern has looked a little different this term; teachers have embraced the use of technology to adapt their delivery of education, virtual assemblies and choir have become a ‘norm’ as has social distancing of adults and regularly using hand sanitiser, and there are so many other things I could list. Yes, this term has certainly looked a bit different, however, all of our students progressed in their learning. 

As I reflected last weekend on Term 2, I was reminded that God is sovereign and good, and is most worthy of praise. “The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:8-9. We have so many things that we can praise God for this term:

• For our adaptable and resilient students, who embraced distance learning, and have settled into school routines again.

• For our parents and caregivers, who tirelessly supported their child/ren in distance learning, and who continue to partner with and support us.

• For the Chaplains and the School Counsellor, who looked after our students’ mental health and wellbeing.

• For our bus drivers, who sanitised and cleaned the buses throughout the day for our students.

• For our cleaners, who cleaned so many surfaces, always with a smile on their face.

• For our kind and caring teachers, who continue to show excellence in their delivery of teaching and learning.

• For our maintenance staff, who tirelessly cleaned our school and made sure our resources were adequate.

• For our office staff, who always happily pick up the phone or reply to an email, ensuring that they are promptly and clearly communicating with our families.

• For our dedicated teacher aides, who patiently support students in their learning.

• For our Librarian, who worked hard to ensure that students had access to quality online books and and borrowed books during distance learning.

• For Christian Schools Tasmania, for the support, guidance and help in ensuring that our schools are safe for our students and staff.

• For Emmanuel, Calvin and Channel Christian Schools, who were so willing to share their resources and learn with us.

We pray that as you wind down in the school holidays, and reflect on the last few months, that you are also reminded of God’s love, goodness and sovereignty in your life. We also pray that you will have precious family times these holidays: enjoy visiting parks again, seeing family and friends, and exploring our beautiful state - Tasmania.

Literacy Support Update

Get ready.....Scholastic Book Fair is coming!

Book Fair Week will be held from Monday 24 to Friday 28 August.
The Book Fair Parade will be held on Wednesday 26 August. Our theme this year is Arctic Adventure. 

For the parade, students will be able to come dressed as anything relating to the Arctic theme (polar bear, penguin, seal, narwhal etc) or a book character. Further details will be provided next term.

(Hint for students - school holidays are a great time to earn some extra pocket money for Book Fair!) 

5 Steps

The ‘5 Steps’ is a strategy that we use to help students take responsibility for their actions, as well as teach conflict resolution skills. We have recently held our ‘5 Steps’ Poster Competition 2020. Each year, students create posters to demonstrate their knowledge of the ‘5 Steps’ which are:

1. Ignore

2. Ask them to stop

3. Tell them how you feel

4. Warn them

5. Tell an adult or leader

The winning poster from Prep - Year 2 is awarded to Amber Smith and the winning poster for Years 3 - 6 is awarded to Bella Coulton.

Thank you to all students for your creativity and clearly showing the 5 steps on your posters!

School Banking in Term 3

School Banking at our school will recommence on Monday 27 July, the first day of Term 3, and will be available every Monday, except for public holidays.

Students needs to place their banking wallet into the slot in the counter in the School Office.

If your child has lost their wallet, please contact your School Banking
Coordinator, Malcolm Lacey, for a replacement or visit any Commbank Branch.

For families using Skoolbag to report absences, this can be done via our Parents page, and the Newsletter is also available via our website. 

You may find it convenient to bookmark these pages for easy access. You can access instructions for how to do this for Apple devices and Android devices.

The Newsletter will continue to be emailed directly to each parent and carer and posted to our Facebook Page each week. Printed copies of the Newsletter are available from the School Office.

All School Absentees

For absentees please fill-out our Absentee Form OR email us before 9.30am.

• An SMS will be sent to parents for unexplained absences.

• Please ensure late students who arrive after 9.00am are signed in at the office.

• If students are leaving early they are required to be signed out at the office.

• A doctor’s certificate is required for more than three days’ absence.

• Please notify the office before 2.30pm for any messages your children need before leaving school.
