Chaplains

At Northern Christian School, we are blessed to have two Chaplains: Mr Malcolm Lacey and Mrs Jenny Berry.

Our school Chaplains are at our school for three days a week. Mr Lacey works each Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Berry is also here each Friday. They can be found in classrooms these days, interacting and supporting our students. During many recesses and lunches, they will be found in the playground with our students or in the multipurpose room with groups of students. You may also see our Chaplains at school events or on excursions.

You may wonder what the role of a Chaplain at Northern Christian School is. I hope the following will answer this.

What does a Chaplain do at Northern Christian School?

• They support and encourage students in many ways.

• They provide activities to foster friendships and community.

• They build relationships with students and staff.

• They are a trusted adult in the playground and in the classroom.

• Their role is to contribute to the spiritual and emotional wellbeing of the school community.

• They provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids and those who just need a friend.

• They also provide support for staff and parents in school communities.

• They may work with one student, pairs or small groups.

• They show and share their faith.

I encourage all of our families to say hello and introduce yourselves to our Chaplains. They support our students in many seen and unseen ways.

Your 2019 Christmas Story

Christmas is just around the corner again and the shops are buzzing with people buying presents and food for the festive season. In the midst of this hive of activity, it is easy to become so busy that we do not have a chance to stop and experience the peace of that first Christmas Eve. Although, it is not surprising,given a familiar reference to this time of year is the “Christmas Rush”, and the “Silly Season”. However, in the midst of the busyness, noise, glitz and glamour, we are also reminded by the sound of “Silent Night” echoing throughout our shopping centres and at our Carol Events that the real reason for this season is the birth of the Christ Child who came to bring peace to our hearts.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.” Luke 2:14

This term in Drama Club we have been looking at how we build a story and what characters say and do to tell the story through their eyes. Similarly, on Thursday we will all celebrate our own Aussie Northern Christian School way of telling the story of Christmas.

My family and I plan to experience the joy and peace of the story of Christmas this year in our own unique way as we celebrate it with friends in Canada. Likewise, as each of us gathers with our families and friends we will all be experiencing the meaning of the Christmas story in our own ways.

I hope each of us finds the true spirit of peace this Christmas season.

Jenny Berry – School Chaplain

There will be lots of activities for the whole family to celebrate the wonderful year we've had at Northern Christian School this year. We will kick off the night at 5.00 pm with our Travel to Bethlehem Musical starting on the deck between Year 2 and 3 classrooms.

Later there will be live music, The Hobart Hurricanes, rides, a jumping castle, and a petting zoo. Food will be free with food vans, fairy floss, and ice cream. Lots to get excited about!

Car parking will be limited at this event and we suggest carpooling if possible. We invite you to bring along camp chairs or picnic rugs as the seating will be limited.

If there is an emergency and we need to evacuate, we will be meeting at our emergency evacuation point at the cricket pitch on the oval. We also seek parental supervision to ensure all children stay in designated play areas. First Aid will be available at the front of the Year 2 and 3 classrooms.

Students please arrive by 4.20 pm and meet your teacher in your classroom.

Book Collection 2020

Our back to school orders for the 2020 classes will be available to be collected in the New Year.

The collection days and times are:

• Thursday 30th January from 10.00 am - 5.30 pm

• Friday 31st January from 8.30 am - 4.00 pm

Back to School uniform preorders will be ready for collection on these days also.

Library Books

As the end of the school year is approaching, all library books need to be returned to the school library as soon as possible.

Please have a thorough search around your home to ensure there are none lurking in bedrooms or bookshelves.

Please note that lost books will incur replacement fees. Please contact us via email if you have any queries.
